2015 NCAA Tournament Game Summary: UAB Blazers upset Iowa St. Cyclones
William Lee had 14 points and 12 rebounds as the 14-seeded (UAB Blazers ) upset the third-seeded Iowa State Cyclones 60-59 in the 2nd round of the 2015 NCAA Tournament Louisville, KY at the KFC Yum! Center Thursday afternoon.
Robert Brown contributed 21 points for Blazers (20-15), which they will advance to the 3rd round of the NCAA Tournament to play winner of the UCLA vs. SMU game. Tyler Madison scored 9 points, dropped 1 dime and pulled down 11 boards, while Tosin Mehinti had 6 rebounds in the victory for the Blazers.
Monte’ Morris lead the way for Iowa State(25-9), with 15 points 4 rebounds, while Matt Thomas helped the Cyclones with 11 points and 2 rebounds. Georges Niang and Jameel McKay finished the game with 11, 10 points respectively in the defeat to the UAB Blazers.
UAB Blazers, shot on 37.1% percent of its first-half field goal attempts to take a (31-28) lead into halftime. Iowa State hit on 42.3% percent of their shots from the field during the first half.
The Blazers finished the game shooting 34.8 percent from the field, and was only 16.7 percent on (3 out of 18) shooting from the 3-point range. The Cyclones finished the game shooting 36.9 percent from the floor, while managing to shoot (5-of-7) from the free-throw line in the defeat to Blazers.
UAB Blazers had 5 less turnovers and beat the Cyclones on the boards (52-37) in the victory in front of a packed crowd.
