2015 NCAA Tournament Goal-tending Call, UCLA advances

Bryce Alford’s three-point shot with 13 seconds left was ruled a goal-tend by Yanick Moreira allowing the UCLA Bruins a chance to survive and advance in the NCAA Tournament. Alford scored 27 points to go along with a couple of rebounds to lead the (11)-seeded UCLA Bruins to a (60-59) win over the (6)-seeded SMU Mustangs in the 2nd round of the 2015 NCAA Tournament in front of a shocked crowd in the KFC Yum! Center Thursday.

Norman Powell contributed 19 points for UCLA (21-13), which they will get to advance to the 3rd round of the 2015 NCAA Tournament to play (14)-seeded UAB Blazers who also had a final score of 60-59 in their upset win over Iowa St earlier. Kevon Looney scored 6 points, and pulled down 10 boards, while Thomas helped on the boards with 6 in the victory for the Bruins.

Nic Moore led the way  for SMU (27-7), with 24 points on 7-18 shooting, while Markus Kennedy helped the Mustangs with 16 points and 9 rebounds. Ryan Manual and Cannen Cunningham finished the game with 5 points each in the defeat to the Bruins.

UCLA Bruins shot only 48 percent of its first-half field goal attempts to lead (34-30) at halftime. The Mustangs hit only 34.5  percent of their shots from the field during the first half.

The UCLA Bruins finished the game shooting 42.6 percent from the field, and was 50 percent on (10 out of 20) shooting from the 3-point range, while the SMU Mustangs finished the game shooting 36.4 percent from the floor, while managing to connect on (12-of-20) from the free-throw line in the defeat to UCLA Bruins.

UCLA Bruins turned the ball over 18 times, but still was able to hold on to beat the Mustangs in the end. However the Bruins did lead the Mustangs on the boards (34-33) in the victory in front of stunned crowd in the KFC Yum! Center.
