Game Analysis: No. 12 Xavier Impressive in win over Toppers

When the new Asscociated Press (AP) rankings come out tomorrow around noon the No. 12 Xavier Muskeeteers should be one of the Top 10 teams in the nation.  Last night in front of a Cintas Center home crowd of 10.250 the Musketeers (8-0) played like a Top 10 team in the country defeating the visiting Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (4-4) in impressive fashion 95-64.  Last season the Musketeers had trouble defending, but were one of the better offensive teams in the country. This season Xavier appears to be playing both ends of the floor resulting in blowouts wins against at then No. 24 Michigan, while also defeating Alabama (64-45), Dayton (90-61) and USC (87-77) in blow victories. The 2015-2016 Xavier Musketeers are one of the threats to make another deep run by years end.

“I thought for a large majority of the game, I was really pleased with our effort,” coach Chris Mack said.”

Here some of my game notes from last nights 31 point victory.

Too Big – Although the Toppers have some young talent, they were just outmatched by the bigger and physical Xavier team.  Xavier won the rebounding edge 40-32 and held Western Kentucky to 38.7 percent shooting from the field (24-62).Career Nights – Great night for Sophomore Guard as he matched his career high in points (21) and led the team in rebounds (10) to finish with a double/double. Senior Big Man James Farr had a career high with 18 points.Box Score Stats – 57% from the field (32-56), 43.8% from three (7-16) 72.7% from free throw line (24-33)  21 Assists to 9 Turnovers. 40 rebounds 10 Offensive. Balanced Scoring – Xavier has a great balance of scoring options on this years team.  Last night 5 players were in double figures scoring, but this team is capable of having 6 or 7 get into double figures for a game.Deep Bench – Coach Chris Mack doesn’t mind going into his bench. 11 players saw 8 or more minutes for the against Western Kentucky.Game Analysis: No. 12 Xavier Impressive in win over Toppers
