Horse Betting 101: 2015 Kentucky Derby & Kentucky Oaks
One of the most exciting times of the year for the State of Kentucky, begins today, as Kentucky Derby Week is officially off and running. This Friday, May 1, and Saturday, May 2, will be the 141st running of the Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby held in Louisville, KY at the legendary Churchill Downs. The Kentucky Oaks Horse Race is held on Friday and has a field made up of fillies (girls), while Saturday’s Kentucky Derby Race is a twenty horse field made up of Colts (boys). The Fillies run for the Lilies, while the Colts run for the Roses. There have been occasions that a Filly is good enough to be entered into the Kentucky Derby to run with the Colts, but for this year’s race that’s not the case.
I know, I know, is something some might say after reading the above paragraph, but there are people out there that I still run across today that does not know and has no interest in visiting Churchill Downs on Derby, or any horse racing track for that matter. After speaking with them for a few minutes about how much fun a day at the track is, most do become interested and curious about visiting and figuring out how to place wagers, or bets on the horses. If you are the person or, persons I speak of, then here is a basic horse racing betting guide for you. Although there are online outlets you can use to place bets, this guide should be used as if you were at the track itself. Have fun and gamble responsibly.
