Kentucky Football changing the game, Give some credit to Barnhart
The Kentucky Wildcats are turning the page to a new chapter in the program’s lackluster football history. The 2014 football season has gotten off to an unprecedented 4-1 start after a program changing 45 -38 win against Steve Spurrier’s South Carolina Gamecocks Saturday night. Second year head coach Mark Stoops was excited after the huge win stating: “We’re just getting started bro”. The quote became an instant hash-tag and was trending Top 3 nationally on social media engine Twitter. Give credit where credit is due for the program changing win, along with the new attitude inside Kentucky’s football program. Of course Mark Stoops and his staff should get a lot of the praise for changing the mindset of the program, while rejuvenating a basketball crazed fan-base. Most importantly, give credit to University of Kentucky’s Athletic Director Mitch Barnhart for the hiring of Mark Stoops November 27, 2012.
Looking back on the hire, some fans voiced their displeasure with Mitch, because he didn’t take a look at Bobby Petrino, who many thought would jump at another chance to coach in the SEC. Mark Stoops wasn’t the splash or big name hire many were looking for, but it didn’t take long for fans to grow accustomed to what Mark Stoops was selling during his first year as head coach. Stoops started with promising the fans of big blue nation that he would attack everyday. He then delivered a consensus Top 25 2014 recruiting class, which turned out to be the best in the schools history as a program.
Although another half of the football season remains, Kentucky appears to be ahead of schedule in the rebuild process in its football program. Yes South Carolina is struggling this year against ranked opponents and have fallen out of the AP Top 25, but that doesn’t mean this isn’t a good win for the future of Kentucky’s program. In fact, the win has already paid dividends for the future, as Stoops received three 4 star class of 2016 commitments in Running Back Andrew Dowell, Safety David Dowell, and Corner back Jordan Griffin. #1 Running back in the class of 2015 Damien Harris was in attendance to witness the upset and was quoted as this being the best game he’s attended all year. Who know’s what the future holds for this young Kentucky team going forward. One thing is certain, this is only the beginning of the process in a new era of Kentucky football. Credit goes out to all who deserve it, especially UK’s AD Mitch Barnhart for a job well done in finding the right man for the job in coach Mark Stoops. Enjoy the success and rebuild of Kentucky football Mr. Barnhart, you absolutely deserve credit too.
“Kentucky football needs to be and will be a championship contender in the SEC. said Barnhart during the coaching search in 2012″
