Kings defeat Pelicans 107-98 in NBA Preseason Game
Rudy Gay scored 20 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead the Sacramento Kings (5-1) to a 107-98 NBA preseason victory over the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday night in front of a Big Blue Nation crowd at the historic Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky.
The main draw for the huge crowd was all the former Kentucky Wildcats greats from on both the Kings and Pelicans that had the pro blue crowd rooting for both teams. Anthony Davis for the New Orleans Pelicans along with Rajon Rondo, Willie Cauley-Stein and DeMarcus Cousins of the Sacramento Kings and all ex Wildcats received loud ovations as they were introduced to the Big Blue crowd of 19,183 at Rupp Arena. This was the second consecutive year Rupp Arena was host to a NBA Preseason game.
On playing in Rupp Arena – “It was good.” stated Anthony Davis after the game. ” I felt like I was in college again. I went out there and had fun. It’s always great playing here.” (Rupp)
DeMarcus Cousins played almost 25 minutes while scoring 19 points and pulling down 5 rebounds, but fouled out in the 4th Quarter after I terrible blocking call by the refs that sent the crowd in a frenzy of Boos. Willie Cauley Stein another Kentucky Wildcats beloved son finished the game with 7 points and 6 rebounds in 24 minutes while Rajon Rondo finished with 3 points 3 assists, and 2 rebounds in 26 minutes.
The New Orleans Pelicans appeared to have control of the game after Ryan Anderson hit a fade away jumper with 9:15 remaining in the 2nd Quarter that put the Pelicans up 43-29. Sacramento closed the 14 point deficit to 61-58 at halftime before building a 83-76 lead by the end of the third to hang on for a 107-98 victory in the end. Anthony Davis finished with 19 points and 8 rebounds in 24 minutes, while Chris Douglas-Roberts poured in 7 points and 6 rebounds in the loss to the Sacramento Kings.
