Los Angeles Clippers Have New Owner
Nearly four months after the racist remarks of former team owner Donald Sterling, the Los Angeles Clippers were finally issued a new owner on Tuesday. Shelly Sterling, Donald’s Sterling’s wife, was allowed by a California court to complete the sell of the team to Steve Ballmer. Steve Ballmer was the former CEO of Microsoft and bought the Clippers for $2 Billion. Donald Sterling initially bought the Clippers for $12 million back in 1981.
Before the selling of the Clippers, head coach Doc Rivers stated that if Donald Sterling was still the owner of the team he would “walk away from the team”. Luckily for Doc Rivers and Clippers players the sell of the team is complete and the team can focus on just playing basketball. “He’s always somebody who’s very excited and very motivated, and I’m sure he’ll be like that times 10,” said Clippers guard Jamaal Crawford in an interview with USA Today Sports about Steve Ballmer. The Clippers will look to be contenders in the NBA’s Western Conference this season.
The NBA regular season schedule was released Wednesday, revealing the games for the Clippers this upcoming season. The Clippers will open their 2014-2015 season at home against the Oklahoma City Thunder on October 30 and will play against the Lakers on Halloween day. The Clippers will also face the Golden State Warriors at home on Christmas Day, a team who they beat in 7 games in the first round of last years playoffs.
As for the Sterlings, Donald has continued to fight against the selling of the team but his appeal was denied by a California court Wednesday. Donald Sterling will likely try to take the case to the U.S. Supreme Court. As for Shelly Sterling, Steve Ballmer agreed to allow her to be the Clippers “Number One Fan” giving her two tickets to each game. Ballmer plans to change the culture of the Clippers and erase the bad memories that Donald Sterling has created.
