Mayweather vs. Pacquiao Preview, Tale of the Tape, Prediction

It’s Showtime!, hold up wait, Let’s get ready to rummblle. Boxing fans everywhere, the big fight weekend we all have waited for has finally arrived.

Pound for Pound greats Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. and Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao will end years of back and forth failed negotiations, to finally meeting in the center ring at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada Saturday night, May 2nd.  This has been one of the most anticipated fights in boxing history.  The fight is a lock to go down as the richest fight in the sport of boxing before it’s all said and done. When the two future Hall of Famers eventually square off this Saturday the event expects to approach 4 million of pay per view buys.

It’s pretty hard to predict how the fight will play out, but it will probably bring out the best in each of the prize fighters.  Floyd Mayweather will use defense and wait for the perfect opportunities to counter attack, while Manny will hope his left hand is landing consistently to put the pressure on Mayweather and his undefeated streak of 47.

“Boxing fans and sports fans around the world will witness greatness on May 2,” Mayweather said. “I am the best ever, TBE, and this fight will be another opportunity to showcase my skills and do what I do best, which is win. Manny is going to try to do what 47 before him failed to do, but he won’t be successful. He will be number 48.”

The official weigh-in for the fight, at which both men contractually agreed to arrive at 147 pounds or less, is scheduled for today, at 6 p.m. ET, and 3 p.m. PT. The fight card will begin Saturday, May 2nd at 5:30 p.m. ET, with the Showtime pay-per-view broadcast set to open at 8 p.m. ET.

How does Floyd Mayweather win?

Mayweather is not a 5 division champion for nothing.  Floyd has proven time and time again that he doesn’t allow the hype of any fight to faze him.  47 fighters have tried to break the “MayVinci code, and all 47 have failed.  Floyd will stay consistent for this fight by using his quickness and shoulder roll to evade shots, while delivering punches with precision to eventually box his way to a win by decision. This technique of defense and counter precise punching will be key to stop the fast and aggressive Manny Pacquiao come fight night.

How does Manny Pacquiao win?

Pacquiao must stay busy in this fight.  He has the ability to rack up some rounds by staying aggressive, while throwing a bunch of punches.  Manny must stick the left straight hand, which gave Floyd problems with Miquel Cotto.  Will Pacman be able to land any shots is the key? If  Floyd feels his power he can change the outcome of this fight.

Prediciton:  Floyd Mayweather Jr. will win by Split Decision.

Styles makes fights.  Manny will not be a pushover in this fight. This is actually a dangerous fight for Floyd Mayweather. I expect Manny to jump out on Floyd Mayweather early in the fight and  win rounds by throwing and landing more punches than Mayweather.  Mayweather will be forced to stand and fight Manny or lose to him on the score cards.  If Manny doesn’t knock Floyd out by the 6th round, this will allow Mayweather to make the necessary adjustments as he does in every fight to pull out a close split decision.  Floyd will have opportunities for a KO in the Championship rounds, because Manny is susceptible to counter punching due to his aggressive fighting style, but in the end I feel Mayweather will figure a way to defeat PacMan and win his 48th fight.
