NCAA tournament: Kentucky defeats Bearcats with toughness advances to Sweet 16

Sophmore guard Aaron Harrison finished the game with 13 points and  2 rebounds, as the No. one-seeded Wildcats responded to the physical play to defeat the No. eight-seeded Cincinnati Bearcats (64-51) in front of big blue crowd of 21,760 at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, KY to advance to the NCAA tournament’s Sweet 16.

The Wildcats (36-0) are headed to Cleveland, where they’ll face the winner of Sunday’s game between fourth-seeded Maryland Terpins and fifth-seeded West Virginia Mountaineers

Trey Lyles was huge for the Wildcats as he responded to the tough play of the Bearcats to score 11 points 11 rebounds in the Round of 32 Saturday afternoon.

“Like Aaron said, we were ready for it.” said Trey Lyles, “Coach prepared us for it. We went out there, and we matched their intensity and matched their physicalness.”

NCAA tournament: Kentucky defeats Bearcats with toughness advances to Sweet 16Freshman guard Tyler Ulis do anything mentality scored 9 points, and pulled down 3 boards and had 5 assists. Karl-Anthony Towns had 8 points and 7 rebounds in the victory for the Wildcats.

Troy Caupain led the way for the Cincinnati Bearcats (23-11), with 13 points 4 rebounds, 4 assists, while Shaq Thomas helped the Bearcats with 10 points and 5 rebounds. Gary Clark and Farad Cobb finished the game with 2 points each in the defeat to Kentucky.

The Kentucky Wildcats shot on 34.5 percent of its first-half field goal attempts to take a (31-24) lead into halftime. The Cincinnati Bearcats shot on 42.3 percent of their shots from the field during the first half.

The Kentucky Wildcats finished the game shooting 37 percent from the field, and was only 26.7 percent on (4 out of 15) shooting from the 3-point range. The Bearcats finished the game shooting 31.7 percent from the floor, while managing to shoot (9-of-14) from the free-throw line.
