NCAA tournament: UCLA defeats UAB advances to Sweet 16
Junior foward/center Tony Parker finished the game with 26 points and 12 rebounds, as the No. 11-seeded Bruins defeated No. 14-seeded UAB Blazers (92-75) in front of a pro blue Kentucky crowd at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, KY to advance to the NCAA tournament’s Sweet 16.
The Bruins (22-13) are headed to Houston, where they’ll face the winner of Sunday’s game between second-seeded Gonzaga Bulldogs and seventh-seeded Iowa Hawkeyes.
Kevin Looney contributed 10 points 11 rebounds for the UCLA Bruins in the Round of 32 Saturday afternoon. Sophomore guard Bryce Alford scored 19 points, and dished out 5 assists, Sophmore guard Isaac Hamilton had 13 points, 4 rebounds, and 6 assists. in the victory for the Bruins.
Robert Brown led the way for UAB (20-16), with 25 points 2 rebounds, while William Lee helped the Blazers with 10 points 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Hakeem Baxter and Tyler Madison finished the game with 8 points each in the defeat to the UCLA Bruins.
The UCLA Bruins shot on 61.3 percent of its first-half field goal attempts to take a (46-37) lead into halftime. The UAB Blazers hit on 50 percent of their shots from the field during the first half.
The UCLA Bruins finished the game shooting 61 percent from the field, and was 63 percent on (5 out of 8) shooting from the 3-point range. The Blazers finished the game shooting 45 percent from the floor, while managing to shoot (4-of-8) from the free-throw line.
