Notre Dame rolls over Wichita State, advance to Elite 8
Demetrius Jackson finished the game with 20 points 4 rebounds and 3 assists , as the No. third-seeded Fighting Irish coasted to an easy victory to defeat the No. seven-seeded Wichita State Shockers (81-70) in Cleveland, Ohio Midwest Regional Sweet 16 game at Quicken Loans Arena to advance to the NCAA tournament’s Elite 8 between winner of Kentucky/West Virginia.
Pat Connaughton had a huge game for Notre Dame (32-5) scoring 16 points and pulling down 10 rebounds Thursday night. All-American gurard Jerian Grant scored 9 points, and pulled down 3 boards and had a team high 11 assists, while Zach Auguste and Steve Vasturia scored 15 points each in the victory for the Fighting Irish.
Fred VanVleet led the way for the Wichita State Shockers (30-5), with 25 points 6 rebounds, 4 assists, while Daruis Carter helped the Shockers with 22 points and 8 rebounds.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish shot on an outrageous 75 percent of its first-half field goal attempts to take a (33-30) lead into halftime. The Wichita State Shockers shot on 43.2 percent of their shots from the field during the first half.
Notre Dame finished the game shooting 55.6 percent from the field, and was 47.4 percent on (9 out of 19) shooting from the 3-point range. The Shockers finished the game shooting 40 percent from the floor, while managing to shoot (15-of-19) from the free-throw line.
