Washington Leads Fern Creek Past Butler
It was a nice crowd Friday night at Fern Creek High School as the Fern Creek Tigers hosted the Butler Bears for homecoming. Fern Creek was led by its talented freshmen trio of Ahmad Price, Trey Hill, and Anthony Wales who were all being watched by U of L men’s basketball assistant coach Kenny Johnson. Leading Butler was talented freshmen guard Jaquay Wales and fiery head coach Rick Gibson. The game would be close throughout, however the Final score would be 57-55 Fern Creek.
Although the emphasis coming into the game would be the outstanding play of the Tigers freshmen, junior guard Tony Washington would lead Fern Creek in scoring with 14 points. The Tigers also got 11 points and 4 rebounds out of freshman Ahmad Price. With a loss last night the Butler Bears move to 5-13 on the season, while the Fern Creek Tigers move to 12-7 on the season.
“This season has been a roller coaster for us some times we have good nights and sometimes we have bad nights. However I still love how we play together as one,” said Washington about the Tigers season. As for how he tries to lead his talented freshmen teammates, “By staying on them and helping them win these games that we play together in.”
With colleges already eyeing them, there’s no limitations as to what the talented freshmen core of Price, Wales, and Hill could be in the future. Still there are a lot of growing pains left for the young freshmen and Tony Washington knows that. “We just need to stay focus on what we need to do and focus on each team one by one.” The Tigers next game will be Monday at 7:30 as they host Waggener at home.
