Louisville FC Defeats Wilmington 3-0
It was the third home game of the season for the Louisville City Football Club on Tuesday night, as they hosted the Wilmington Hammerheads. Louisville entered the match with a record of 2-1-3, both of its wins coming at home in Slugger Field. The Hammerheads entered the match Tuesday with a record of 1-4-2 on the season and were looking to silence the more than 4,000 Louisville fans in attendance.
That silence would never happen on Tuesday night as Louisville gave its fans plenty of reasons to cheer in the first 45′. Louisville City’s first goal would come from Magnus Rasmussen off an assist from Juan Guzman in the 16′. Then in the 40′ Louisville’s Aodhan Quinn scored the 2nd goal in the game, making it the first game all season that Louisville had scored two goals in one half. However they weren’t done just yet as Conor Shanosky scored another goal for Louisville in the 42′, giving the Football Club a 3-0 lead at halftime.
In the 2nd part of the match neither team scored as goalkeepers Scott Goodwin and Greg Ranjitsingh looked to keep the Louisville lead safe. There would be four extra minutes, but it wouldn’t affect the outcome of the game as the final score would be 3-0 Louisville. A win in Tuesday night’s match now gives the Louisville City Football Club a record of 3-1-3 on the season, with 12 points as well. Louisville City is also in fourth place in the USL’s Eastern Conference and is only one game behind the Richmond Kickers for third place. Both teams will play Saturday, as Richmond will take on Pittsburgh at home and Louisville City will host Toronto FC II at Slugger Field. Toronto has a record of just 1-4-1, so we could see another scoring outburst from Louisville City again this Saturday.
