The first 45′ of the game was very physical and each team struggled to score. Goalies Scott Goodwin of Louisville City and Matt Lampson of Charlotte did a good job of the stopping the other team from scoring. It wasn’t until the 34′ that Louisville City’s Magnus Rasmussen scored the first goal in the game off a spot kick after a costly mistake by Charlotte. The goal by Rasmussen would be the only points scored in the game as the Louisville City defense didn’t allow any attempts from Charlotte to get through the goal. The 1-0 win for Louisville City was its third consecutive win at home.

There were a total of 25 fouls committed in the game including 14 by Charlotte and 11 by Louisville City. The Independence had ten shot attempts, while Louisville City was able to score off one of its eleven shot attempts. As for the goalies, Lampson had seven saves for the Independence and Goodwin had three saves for Louisville City. This is the 9th game of the season in which Louisville City hasn’t allowed a goal to be scored by its opponent.

“You will get games where you can’t score as many goals as you would like..We were pleased to get the win,” said head coach James O’Connor about Louisville City’s performance.  “I thought we did a really good job defensively …the point is to just win the game,” said Scott Goodwin after the game. Louisville City is now 7-1-2 when playing at home in Slugger, however they won’t have another home game until August 5th. “We just get to go on a nice trip to see a cool city and go play a game to try to put the target on the other team’s back,” said Goodwin about Louisville City’s mind state for the next three road games. They will play the Pittsburgh Riverhounds next Saturday at Pittsburgh.
