April 20, 2014 Louisville, Ky
This years Derby Classic was another high paced, entertaining All-Star type showcase. The game was very fun to watch and the players from both the Green and White team put on a show. The players who showed great potential were Trevon Bluiett of Xavier who was one of the high scorers in the game. Isaac Copeland the future Georgetown Hoya who won the dunk contest and MVP of the Green Team. The dunk contest was fun and entertaining especially when Jaylen Johnson another future Cardinal brought the crowd to its feet with a dunk featuring a pass from his mother. The 3 point contest was won by Max Hoetzel who is headed to I.U. Quentin Snider the future Cardinal and MVP of the white team who showed great skill while collecting 8 pts and 9 assists. During the game Q the Louisville native from Ballard High where he set several records gave a performance worth seeing. He ran a fast paced offense and showed his passing ability with quick passes that reminded you of some of the best point guards at work. Some of the passes Q made gave a flashback of Magic or Gary Payton. Q has a nice jumper and a good knowledge of the game. He also showed the charisma of a player beyond his years. After the game when he was surrounded by autograph seekers and reporters with camera’s Q looked as if that was were he belonged. He is without a doubt a player to watch for in the years ahead. The Derby Classic has become an anticipated part of the Derby Season, and it was nice to spend a hoops filled evening in the old home of the Cardinals Freedom Hall. The Ville was a good host, and here’s to all the players who participated in the showcase. The 2014 Class is one to watch.
