2015 Preakness Stakes Entries, Post Positions & Odds
Starting post positions for the 140th Preakness Stakes were drawn Wednesday evening, May 13, 2015 at 5:00 pm ET in Pimlico’s Sports Palace. Pimlico racing officials used a pill pull, which employs a small numbered ball in a blind draw, to decide post positions for the middle jewel of racing’s Triple Crown.
We are a few days from the 140th running of the Preakness Stakes, American Pharoah remained the morning line favorite at 4/5 in the 8 horse field. Pharoah drew the one post position. The winner of the Kentucky Derby arrived at Pimlico this afternoon looking forward to a win to take his talents to Belmont for a Triple Crown Bid. No horse since Affirmed did it in 1978 has swept the Triple Crown Races of the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont.
Dortmund 7-2 complicated matters for trainer Bob Baffert after American Pharoah and Dortmund both of the horses he trains drew the one and two post positions for the 2015 Preakness Stakes.
“I was surprised I drew one, two” said Baffert. ” I hate drawing next to each other with my horses, but they will be easy to watch now. You know, with eight horses it’s a different vibe here, so they still have to break well. You don’t like to be down on the inside, but unless you can redraw it, or something, we’re just going have to deal with it.”
