Deontay Wilder vs. Eric Molina Preview, Tale of the Tape, Prediction

PREVIEW:

This is a heavyweight fight boxing fans don’t want to miss.  WBC Heavyweight Champion of the World Deontay Wilder will put his belt on the line this Saturday, June 13, in front of his home state fans against Eric “The Drummer Boy” Molina Live on Showtime.   The State of Alabama will be at center stage of the boxing world set to begin at around 9 pm Eastern Standard Time from the Bartow Arena in Birmingham, AL. This will be the first time in history for Alabama to host a world championship boxing match.

“It’s definitely a blessing to be able to fight in my state.” said Wilder “When we set the goal to be heavyweight champion of the world that was one of the goals we set, to bring it to Alabama. Just to change it up and give Alabama some spice besides football, and to finally get the opportunity to have a major fight in the state of Alabama. This is what we were looking for when we worked to bring the commission here, and we were successful and got it done. This is what we were looking for.”

Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder is the first american heavyweight champion since Shannon Briggs held the title in 2007.  Wilder is coming into this bout with a 33-0 record with 32 of those wins coming by the way of knockout.  The Bronze Bomber defeated Bermane Stiverne in January to capture one of the three american heavyweight belts.  Wladimir Klitschko currently owns the WBA and WBO belts.  Wilder’s opponent Eric Molina is a winner of his last five fights with a record of 23-2.

PREDICTION:

Eric Molina is a big puncher. Wilder who also is a knockout artist will have to respect the punching power of Molina in the early rounds.  Look for Molina to try to throw punching combinations in hopes to land his wide throwing shots to try to hurt Wilder.  Deontay has the advantage on Molina in every category from speed to punching power, but with the idea of Molina having nothing to lose will give him a punchers chance in this fight.  However, expect Wilder to win this fight in a knockout in the 5th round.  With Wilder knocking out his opponents at a 97% rate, he will get his 33rd knockout of his career come Saturday, then the Bronze Bomber will set his mind towards unification of the belts against the International Super Boxer, Wladimir Klitschko in the Fall of 2015.
