E-TOWN VS. BUTLER JUMP BALL GIRLS LIT

Boley Leads E’Town

After 16 teams in the beginning, the Republic Bank/ Coca Cola Girl’s Basketball LIT tournament came down to just two teams on Saturday night. The hometown Butler Bearettes from Louisville took on the Elizabethtown Lady Panthers in Bellarmine’s Knight Hall at 8:00 pm. Elizabethtown defeated Ashland Blazer 60-43 in their semifinal championship game and Butler was coming off an 51-41 win over Henderson County in their championship game.

The game’s fist half was quite entertaining as it was close throughout. Elizabethtown’s Erin Boley scored 12 points in the first half, which led all scorers. Butler’s Ashlee Harris and Teri Goodlett both led the Bearettes in scoring with five points at half time. The Bearettes were plagued by turnovers in the first half with nine turnovers leading to ten of the Lady Panthers points. The score at half time would be 25-20 in favor of Elizabethtown.

The third quarter began with Elizabethtown hitting five straight points and stretching their half time lead to 30-20. However the Bearettes would get some good production off the bench by Janna Lewis and Ashlee Harris to make the score 40-32 Lady Panthers.The 4th quarter would be all Elizabethtown as Erin Boley took control of the game in “crunch time”. Boley scored nine points in the 4th quarter and the Lady Panthers stretched their lead to as much as 15. Butler tried to cut the lead down but never got closer than 12 points, the final score was 62-49 Elizabethtown as the Lady Panthers are the 2015 Girls LIT champions.

E’Town’s Erin Boley was named the Joyce Seymour Most Oustanding Offensive Player of the Girls LIT Tournament.The Butler Bearettes are now 18-4 on the season and are still on top of the 6th region. The Bearettes next game will be against Western on Tuesday at 6:00 pm. As for the Elizabethtown Lady Panthers, they move to 24-2 on the season and remain #1 in in the 5th region. The Lady Panthers will play at Fort Knox on Friday at 7:30 pm.
