What are the odds of playing collegiate women’s basketball? One may ask. The odds to play collegiate women’s basketball are 6.4% as reported in 2014 by ScholarshipStats.com. Colonial Forge HS Senior Bri Sullivan, has committed to play for the College of Charleston. Bri Sullivan serves as one of the two team captains, at 6-1, she plays the 3 and the 4 position for the Eagles. Bri Sullivan has a solid set of skills that include: excellent post play, with the ability to shoot from the outside. She has guard-type skills, is a tenacious player on the low block, who can be tough to guard because of her versatility inside out. Sullivan, was also a soccer player before deciding to focus on her basketball career. Though she is a standout on the Colonial Forge HS team, she also played two years on the AAU basketball for the Fairfax Stars where she was coached by Drew Edmondson. When she arrives at College of Charleston, she will be coached by Head Coach Candice Jackson. Coach Jackson is currently coaching her second season with the Cougars after being hired by the College of Charleston on April 24, 2014, where her team this year is (5-21) and (3-12) in the Colonial Athletic Association. Coach Jackson came to College of Charleston in 2014 after spending the past three years at Duke University under Head Coach Joanne McCallie, where she served as an Assistant Coach, and the Blue Devils Recruiting Coordinator.
When she arrives at College of Charleston she wants to major in Psychology, and join fellow Cougar teammates like: Jacqueline Luna-Castro, Jenice Winter, Shiclasia Brown, and others. Bri Sullivan was one of four recruits who were early signees for the College of Charleston announced by the team and Coach Jackson on November 21, 2014. Bri Sullivan, will join these three other commits this fall: 5’11” Guard Dajah Logan- Randallstown, MD, 5’8″ Guard Darien Huff- Elizabethtown, KY, and 5’7″ Guard Shambria “Bria” Washington- Ocala, FL.

I now present to you my exclusive interview with Colonial Forge HS and College of Charleston commit, Bri Sullivan.
HS Hoops: Colonial Forge Senior SF/PF Bri Sullivan
Analyzed Sports: You played for Coach Michelle Darley. What was it like to play for her?
Bri Sullivan: Coach Darley actually retired last year, but I’m grateful to have played for her. She saw potential in me when I didn’t even believe in myself.
Analyzed Sports: Your team is currently (12-5), what are some of the keys to success for this team?
Bri Sullivan: Keys to success for our team are our fast paced transition play and our ability to knock shots down from most anywhere.
Analyzed Sports: What style of offense do you run at Colonial Forge?
Bri Sullivan: We mostly run a traditional 3 out 2 in offense, but we try to get our posts involved out on the perimeter sometimes.
Analyzed Sports: You play the SF and PF position for Colonial Forge, what are the differences in those two positions?
Bri Sullivan: The shooting forward tends to play more on the wing but is able to get inside and bang with the bigs. The power forward primarily stays in the post region.
Analyzed Sports: How did you get interested in playing basketball?
Bri Sullivan: Honestly, I think my parents signed me up for basketball just so I could get out of the house and be a part of something.
Analyzed Sports: What does basketball mean to you?
Bri Sullivan: Basketball is very important to me. It’s most definitely shaped me into the person I am today, it’s opened my eyes incredibly. I’m incredibly blessed to be able to play.
Analyzed Sports: What do you like to do off-the-court in your free time?
Bri Sullivan: In my spare time, I like going to the gym and hanging out with family and friends.
Analyzed Sports: Who is a player that you style your game after?
Bri Sullivan: I don’t think i style my play off of anyone in specific. It’s a mixture of several different people.
Analyzed Sports: If you could pick 4 current or past College and Pro players to be on your pick-up team, who would you pick and why?
Bri Sullivan: The 4 people I would choose would be my best friend, Kenya Holland, who is currently a shooting guard at Princeton, Skylar Diggins, Kevin Durant, and Gilbert Arenas. They are some of my favorite players.
Analyzed Sports: You have committed to play at the College of Charleston next year, what made you pick College of Charleston?
Bri Sullivan: I chose the College of Charleston because I felt at home there. The coaches and girls are really nice and welcoming. The area is beautiful and it was a full ride, so it was a no brainer.
Analyzed Sports: Are you excited to play Division 1 Basketball?
Bri Sullivan: I’m extremely excited to play Division 1 basketball. It’s something several people can only dream of, I really don’t think it’s hit me yet. But it’s also humbling because that’s my the end, now I know I need to work harder than I ever have before.
Analyzed Sports: What have you taught your teammates during your years on the team?
Bri Sullivan: Hopefully, I’ve taught my teammates that you can do anything you set your mind to. The road may not always be easy, but your chances are better when you work hard.
Analyzed Sports: Do you have a pre-game music playlist?
Bri Sullivan: Before games I mostly listen to rap music, like Shy Glizzy and Gucci Mane. Sometimes we play music to get hype together as a team.
