It’s now or never for Bears QB Jay Cutler

Jay Cutler is coming off an injured battled 2013 season were he passed for 2,621 yards with 29 touchdowns and 19 interceptions.  In January of 2014 the Chicago organization left no doubt in who they wanted as their head man under center by signing Cutler to a 7 year contract worth 126 million, with 50 million guaranteed.  Is Jay Cutler worth that kind of long-term deal?  Cutler is entering his ninth season in the NFL after originally being drafted by the Denver Bronco’s with the 11th overall pick in 2006.  In 2008 Cutler had his best season in the NFL as he threw for 4,526 yards with 25 TD’s and 18 Interceptions.  This was enough to earn him Pro Bowl honors.  The next season the disgruntled QB was acquired by the Bears in a trade for Kyle Orton and a 1st and 3rd round draft pick.  The Chicago Bears organization thought they had corrected their weakest link on the offensive side of the ball, after experiencing up and downs with then QB’s Rex Grossman and Kyle Orton.

Since becoming the Bears Starting QB, Cutler career has started off rocky in the Windy City. Jay has only taken Chicago to the playoffs one time in 2010, a feat the Bears have only experienced twice in the last 8 years.   Jay has had injuries to the groin, knee, and ankle during his tenure as the Quarterback for the Chicago Bears.  The injuries have happened during big games, causing the fans to question the toughness of their franchise player.

It’s not always been easy,” Cutler said. “There’s been some ups and downs. There’s been some bad years, there’s been some good years. I think it makes me appreciate the moment I’m in even more, with the offensive weapons we have, with the type of leadership we have from the front office, with the type of coaching staff we have with the play calling and our offense install. It makes me happy I’m here.”

Last year Bears General Manager Phil Emery hired an offensive minded coach Marc Trestman to help with turning one of the NFL’s worst offensive teams into one of the top offensive teams in the league.  The coaching staff helped produced some impressive results on the offensive side of the ball.  In total yards the Bears jumped from 28th to 8th.  Yards per play saw a jump from 28th to 3rd. While passing yards increased from 29th to 5th.  With offensive weapons such as, Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffery, Martellus Benett, and Matt Forte’ the Bears maybe one of the best offensive teams in the NFL this season.  The defense has to catch up some to the offense, but for Jay Cutler, the time is now for him to become the Quarterback many people expected him to be coming out of Vanderbilt University.

Teammate WR Brandon Marshall believes Cutler time is Now.

Asked what we’ll see from Jay Cutler, the Pro Bowl wideout told NFL Media’s Michael Irvin on Wednesday that Chicago’s starting quarterback will be named this year’s league MVP.

‘He’s the first one in the building, last one to leave now, his leadership is through the roof,’ Marshall said on Wednesday’s edition of Inside Training Camp Live. ‘He’s correcting the coaches. This is his offense. This is his organization, he’s running it, and I love it.’
