On a beautiful clear October night, the Great American Rivalry series was in attendance to witness the 133rd meeting between No. 1 Louisville Male Bulldogs vs. the No. 17 DuPont Manual Crimsons at Historic Manual Stadium in Louisville, KY. The Battle of the Barrel would stay with the Male Bulldogs (9-0) for another year as they defeated the Crimsons (7-2) of Manual 43-7 Friday night in front of a packed stadium of 13,001. Male’s Devin Gentry rushed for 15 yards for a TD and caught a 38 yard touchdown pass from Great American Rivalry MVP QB Hayden Shelton making the score 14-0 with 3:43 remaining in the 1st Quarter. On the 2nd play of the 2nd Quarter the Bulldogs Dayveon Higgs would rush for a 37 yard score with Male facing a 3rd and 4 situation making the score 21-0. Manual’s only score of the game would come on a Bryce Cosby’s interception returned 45 yards for the score with 4:50 remaining in the half. The score at the half would be 21-7. The second half was pretty much dominated by Male on defense, while Ethan Britt and Zach Hall combined for 3 TD’s on offense along with a successful two-point conversion by QB Hayden Shelton which made up the final score of 43-7. The Bulldogs had 401 total yards of offense, while holding the Crimsons to only 92 yards total offense. Both teams have one more game next Friday before the KHSAA playoffs begin. Next up for Male is a home game against Western. Next up for Manual is an away game against Eastern.
“Our defense would create some turnovers, they (Manual) make a mistake, so we didn’t push the issue with the offense like we normally did.” Male Head Coach Chris Wolfe said. ” We got a couple of mistakes, the interception in the redzone, then they (Manual) made a mistake on the punt and it kind of snow balled from there.”
