KEYS TO VICTORY xavier musketeers

Xavier is coming off a 95-64 blowout loss on the road against the Villanova Wildcats New Year’s Eve in Philadelphia, Pa. The No. 6 team in the country was playing that game without on of their key pieces in Edmond Sumner after he left Villanova game in the early minutes on a stretcher after Villanova player landed on his head after he was fouled on a layup attempt. The 6’6 Sumner averages 11 points with 3 rebounds and 3 assists in 23.8 minutes per game.   The Musketeers as a team are shooting 36.2 percent from three, led by sophomore Trevon Blueitt with 42.5 percent shooting on 31 of 73 from behind the arch.  Xavier will look to push the pace while working for the good shot.  Xavier has four players averaging double figures in points, so the balanced attack should cause problems for the visiting Butler Bulldogs.

Butler is coming off a close home loss to the Providence Friars this past Thursday, December 31. This team is able to put up points in a hurry and also have a balanced attack with four players averaging double figures. This year’s Bulldogs are led by their two seniors in Kellen Dunham and Roosevelt Jones.  Dunham is averaging 15 points and 2 rebounds in almost 30 minutes a game. Jones is a do everything guard/forward thats averaging 14.2 points 7.6 rebounds and 4.9 assists in 31.1 minutes of play.  The Bulldogs are a good rebounding team that likes to pass the basketball. The Bulldogs will try to keep the Musketeers off balance with their excellent ball movement.  As a team they’re shooting over 50 percent from the field, which is key to their success on offense.
