SEC TOURNAMENT: Top-Seeded Aggies Advance to Semi-Finals with win over Gators
Tyler Davis had 15 points 9 rebounds to lead the (one)-seeded Texas A&M Aggies to a (72-66) win over the (eight)-seeded Florida Gators in the Quarterfinals of the 2016 SEC Tournament in Nashville, TN at the Bridgestone Arena Friday afternoon.
Senior Danuel House contributed 15 points 3 rebounds for the Aggies (25-7 (13-5)), which they will advance to the Semi-Final Saturday of the 2016 SEC Tournament to play the winner of the Tennessee/LSU game. Jalen Jones scored 13 points, and pulled down 6 boards, while Tonny Trocha-Morelos had 9 points, 7 rebounds in the victory for the the Aggies.
Kasey Hill led the way for Florida (19-14 (9-9), with 18 points, 2 assists, and 3 rebounds while Dorian Finney-Smith helped the Gators with 11 points 7 rebounds . Center Sophomore John Egbumu fouled out with 11 points and 6 rebounds in the defeat to the Aggies.
The Texas A&M Aggies shot only 35.9 percent on 14 of 39 first-half field goal attempts to take a (34-32) lead into halftime. The Aggies had 26 of their 34 points within the paint. Cincinnati hit on 44.8 percent of their shots from the field during the first half, but was only able to convert 2 of 9 from the three point line for 22.2%.
The Aggies finished the game shooting 39% percent from the field, and was only 25 percent on 4 out of 16 shooting from the 3-point range. The Gators finished the game shooting 39 percent from the floor as well, while managing to shoot (15-of-21) from the free-throw line in the defeat to Texas A&M.
Texas A&M had 44 points in the paint and 12 second chance points, but loss 45-43 on the boards to the Gators, who also had 35 bench points.
