Kentucky took an early 22-11 lead in the first half after an 8-0 run capped off with a Marcus Lee dunk at the 7:52 mark. The Rebels were not able to get back in the game after that. The Wildcats didn’t look back, as they built 25 point lead after a Murray layup gave them a 46-21 advantage with 56 seconds left until halftime. The Wildcats led the Rebels 46-21 at the break while connecting on 17 of 33 shooting for 51.5 percent. Kentucky only shot 27.3 percent from three at the half on 3 of 11 attempts.
“I thought we had a great first half defensively short of a couple break downs.” stated UK Head Coach Calipari. “The second half we backed up a little bit. And I know you sit there and say you’re up 26 and up 29, it’s easy to do that, but were not that team. Were not last year’s team. What we got to do is learn every moment on the floor.”
The No. 10 ranked Wildcats started the second half in full control as it went on a 10-4 run over the first four minutes before the lead was stretched to 27 points after the Ulis made layup at the 9:37 mark. Kentucky would go on to control the rest of the game as they went on to win 83-61.
Kentucky will travel on the road to LSU Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at 9pm ET on ESPN, while the OLE Miss Rebels will try to get their first win at home against Alabama on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at 9PM on ESPNU.
