Fondy’s Historic Game Leads Lou City

Louisville City Football Club came into Saturday’s night game looking to bounce back after losing at home against the New York Red Bulls II last weekend. Louisville City would face the Oklahoma City Energy in Slugger in front of its 6,464 fans. The Oklahoma City Energy entered Saturday night’s game with a record of 7-3-3 and were in the top six of the USL’s Western Conference. However Louisville City was destined to get a win after its loss from New York last Saturday.

The game started off in favor of the Energy as Sebastian Dalgaard scored the first goal in the game in the 17′ for Oklahoma City. Then in the 25′ an illegal pass by Oklahoma City set up a goal by Louisville City’s Matt Fondy in the 27′, tying the game at 1-1. Fondy would score again in the 39′ off an assist from Magnus Rasmussen to give Louisville City a 2-1 lead. 2-1 would also be the score after the first 45′ and neither team was able to score in extended time.

In the 50′ a yellow card by Louisville City’s Aodhan Quinn would lead to another goal for the Energy, as Danni Konig tied the game at 2-2. Unfortunately that would be the final goal in thw game for Oklahoma City because it would be all Louisville City from that point. In the 56′ Louisville City would take the lead off a goal by Enrique Montana and never looked back. They would score again in the 61′ after a penalty kick by Rasmussen, giving them a 4-2 lead. In the 67′ Rasmussen would assist on another goal to Kadeem Dacres making the score 5-2 . However the last and final goal in the game would be scored by Matt Fondy again in the 87′, giving him the first “Hat Trick” (his 3rd goal in one game) in Louisville City Football Club history. The Final Score would be 6-2 in favor of Louisville City as they are now 6-3-5 on the season.

“We had a grueling couple of weeks with four games in ten days, it was good to get back to focusing on what we do best. It was my first Hat Trick as well”, said Matt Fondy on about his performance in Saturday night’s game. ” I was very well pleased…We have a young group of players and  there will be games where they  don’t play as well they can,” said Louisville City head coach James O’ Connor about his team’s determination to be bounce back from last week’s game. “Matt is someone who we have tremendous belief and respect for,” said coach O’Connor on the performance by Fondy.

The six goals scored by Louisville City in Saturday night’s game were the most they have scored all season. They will try to ride that momentum into next Saturday’s game against the Richmond Kickers at Slugger Field. It will be the third of four straight home games for Louisville City, who is now 5-1-2 at home. Richmond and Louisville City’s first game back in April resulted in a draw with a score of 1-1. However after a game like Saturday’s Louisville City’s confidence is definitely back and they will get another week to train between games.
